Abstract

During the last decade there has been considerable activity in the field of physical acoustics, much of which has been reviewed in the ten books edited by Mason (1964–70). Acoustic techniques at frequencies in the range 106–1010 Hz have been used to study gases, liquids and especially quantum effects and the internal friction in solids.
