Abstract
A device is described for producing small (ca. 1 mu rad) rigid body rotations of optical elements about an accurately known axis. The usual difficulties of backlash and hysteresis associated with a rotary stage are avoided by mounting the stage on an elastic torsion suspension. Rotation of the stage is accomplished by applying an accurately known torque to the stage by controlled deformation of extensional springs.
