Abstract

Large-scale (230-mm-diameter) triaxial compression tests are carried out as part of the research work of the Geotechnics Division of the Building Research Station, United Kingdom. It was considered desirable to monitor the tests by using automatic data logging facilities. A new device was designed and built to monitor sample volume change. The gage has been used in a series of tests on rock-fill samples. The device is described and its accuracy and performance are discussed. (Author)
