Abstract

The discrepancy between the experimental and theoretical results of Bragg diffraction in vertically deposited opal layers occurred in the literature. They refer to diffraction extrema associated with planes other than parallel to the top surface. Analyzing the results of spectrogoniometric studies of the transmission coefficient the new “face-centered tetragonal” (“fct”) structure was proposed. Assuming that structure a satisfactory agreement of the theoretical and experimental dependencies was obtained. Based on the new structure, the diameter of nanospheres, filling factor, deformation coefficient, and thus the length of the opal unit cell edge were obtained for several samples.
