Abstract
Devi Sridhar has travelled far in her fairly short career. She was the youngest Rhodes Scholar, aged just 18 years, and became Professor of Global Public Health at the University of Edinburgh, UK, when she was 30. But milestones are of little interest to her, especially as her role as a leader in global health governance has been accelerated by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. “This is the time for the global public health community to step up”, she comments. “We have never before been required to work so intensively and as rapidly as in today's environment, where effective public health responses and global health governance are having an impact on the entire world's population.
