Abstract
In Leucophaea maderae Fabr., the prothoracic glands first appear during stage 15 of the embryonic development table of Aiouaz (1974). They originate from ectoderm and are located in the labial segment behind the posterior arms of the tentorium. In stage 19, we observed a migration of the prothoracic gland cells on muscular fibers which are eventually covered by these cells; both crossed ribbons forming the glands are in place in stage 22 between the suboesophageal ganglion and the prothoracic ganglion.
