Abstract

Washington: Three unsuccessful new-field wildcats were drilled. Total exploratory footage was 12,542 ft. Oregon: Four unsuccessful new-field wildcats, all offshore, were drilled. Total exploratory footage was 30,728 ft. California: A total of 417 exploratory wells drilled 2,122,344 ft. of hole. The average depth per well was 5,090 ft. Seven new fields, 4 oil and 3 gas, and 26 pools, 21 oil and 5 gas, were discovered. Exploratory drilling was 12.9 and 13.0% successful in number of wells and footage, respectively. Eighty-four core holes, 38 onshore and 46 offshore, were drilled for a total of 389,376 ft., an average of 4,634 ft. per core hole. Well completions, including development wells, were 2,512, down 309 from 1964. Crude production was 316 million bbls., natural gas production was 644 Bcf., and natural gas liquids was 23.6 million bbls. Basement was reached in 23 unsuccessful exploratory wells.
