Abstract

Drilling in the southeastern states increased sharply in 1963, with 893 wells drilled as compared with 697 in 1962. Mississippi was again the most active state and had all of the successful exploratory wells. Exploratory drilling increased by 18%, while maintaining an 11% success ratio. Development drilling increased by 38%; however, the success ratio dropped by 5.3%. Development drilling in Alabama was down slightly, but exploratory drilling nearly doubled. In Florida 1 successful development well and 4 dry exploratory wells were drilled. Three dry wells were drilled in Georgia.
