Abstract

A total of 2,029 wells was drilled in South Texas during 1967 compared with 2,640 for 1966. Exploratory drilling for the year was 16.4% successful. An increase in seismic activity occurred in all trends except the Oligocene-Miocene and offshore. Offshore activity decreased 76.8% to only 23 crew-weeks. Total geophysical activity decreased 7.6%. Drilling in the Paleozoic and Jurassic trends was unsuccessful. Several tests were drilled to the Sligo Formation (Cretaceous) and a discovery was made which may prove to be significant. Wilcox discoveries of interest were in the shallow updip trend, at Charamousca salt dome, and in the downdip Wilcox. Frio discoveries of significance were made in the offshore and bay areas.
