Abstract
The number of wells drilled in this area in 1963 was 1,987 compared with 2,584 in 1962, a decrease of 597 or 23%. Successful exploratory wells were 102 as against 107 in 1962. The total production was down 55,000 bbls. but was 7.6% of the total for the state. Shallow pays in several of the counties make the district attractive for the independents as well as the major companies. The use of seismic information is increasing for selecting locations for wells everywhere except in the areas of shallow production.
