Abstract

During 1961, there were 4,401 wells drilled for oil or gas in Kansas. Excluding the shallow stripper area of southeastern Kansas, the total drops to 3,276. Of this latter figure, 49% were successful. Production in Kansas for 1961 amounted to 112,210,936 bbls. of oil, 6,150,086 bbls. of LPG and natural gasoline, and 676,235,505 MCF of natural gas. Exploratory tests in Kansas during 1961 numbered 1,165 and included 103 oil discoveries, 33 gas discoveries, 68 extensions to oil pools, 28 extensions to gas pools, and 933 dry holes. New-field, new-pool, and outpost discoveries numbered 115. There were 20 deeper-pool discoveries and 1 shallower-pool discovery during 1961. Available information indicates that 20 exploratory tests were drilled during 1961 in Iowa, Missouri, and that part of Nebraska east of the 98th Meridian. None of these 20 tests was successful.
