Developments in Louisiana Gulf Coast in 1975

Abstract

The Louisiana Gulf Coast region consists of the 38 southern parishes of Louisiana and the 21 Outer Continental Shelf areas extending out to a water depth of 6,500 ft (2,000 m). There were 1,957 exploratory and development wells drilled in the region in 1975, an increase of 13.5% over 1974. The success ratio for exploratory wells was 21%, and 69% of the development wells were successful. A total of 30 significant new-field discoveries was drilled in 1975, 19 onshore and 11 offshore. The most important are Mobile South 2 Block N660-E62, Mobile South 2 Block N661-E60, West Delta Block 109, Eugene Island Block 261, Eugene Island Block 327 and West Cameron Block 537 fields offshore, and False River, South Myette Point, Rice Bayou, and Joe McHugh fields onshore. The most significant of the new pools and extensions are at Mobile South 2 Block N661-E062, Eugene Island Block 317 (Block 306 field), South Marsh Island Block 128 (Block 141 field) and Vermilion Blocks 22 and 23 (Block 39 field) offshore and Jennings Townsite, Rayne, Bully Camp, and LacBlanc onshore. Geophysical activity increased 7% onshore and declined 11% offshore. The total activity declined less than 0.01% from 1974. Leasing activity was up 37% in onshore Louisiana in 1975, but offshore leasing declined sharply from the record amounts bid in 1974, as most operators believed the choice acreage had been leased previously.
