Abstract

The joint session on dosimetry organised by the Health Physics Society and the American Nuclear Society in New Orleans in June 1984 provided a demonstration of the relationship between the health physics and reactor dosimetry. This paper applies the papers given at the joint sessions to assess the progress that has been made in the transfer of ideas and techniques between these fields of study. The growing interest in ALARA and the need for transferable standards provides some of the incentives to seek improved dosimetry in health physics. In addition the possibility of an increase in neutron quality factor and the application of realistic anatomical phantoms in Health Physics stimulate developments in dosimetry. The paper reviews developments in dosimetry in the context of these areas of interest to the health physicist.
