Abstract

The number of exploratory and development wells drilled in eastern and northwestern Colorado in 1977 increased 14.7% from 1976 and the success rate increased from 57.8% to 59.2%. Within the report area exploratory drilling increased by 4.1% and development drilling was up 20.3%. An increase of 65.1% in development drilling in northwestern Colorado occurred during 1977. Development and exploratory drilling also increased in the Denver basin (8.8 and 12.6%, respectively). Development drilling was concentrated in Weld County, largely in the Spindle field area. During 1977, 1,140 wells were drilled, of which 446 were successful oil completions and 229 were successful gas completions.
