Abstract

Rapid calculations of the transient eddy-current response from a conductive plate have recently been made by using short and long time approximations in the inversion of the relevant Laplace transform. In this letter, we propose an alternative approach based on a systematic way of bracketing and computing the poles of the Laplace transform expression. The method is remarkably fast and is expected to be particularly useful in the long time computation of the transient signal where only a very limited number of poles is required. We also utilize a numerical method for inverting the Laplace transform.
