Abstract

Summary Forms of Haemogregarina faiyumensis , gamonts in particular, were first discovered by Mansour and Mohammed (1966b) in the Faiyum Province in Egypt. One out of 20 toads ( Bufo regularis ) captured near Khartoum in the Sudan, was infected with H. faiyumensis . Nine of the 20 toads harboured either H. boueti, H. aegyptia or a mixture of both species. No developmental stages of H. faiyumensis could be found in the liver, the preferred site for merogony forms of haemogregarines. The most conspicuous forms present in the blood were the slender, slightly curved gamonts (17.4 × 4.5 μm). Their rounded nuclei consist of typically circularly arranged chrornsatin dots. In addition, broad forms and nlerozoites were found.
