Abstract

Structured activities, such as internships, workplace visits and employer projects are becoming increasingly popular as a means of engaging potential employers with their future workforce. As such, this dimension of employer engagement is one that merits research, which is the objective of this study through exploring the effectiveness of an employer relations project as a means of developing workplace skills among pre-university students in a private university in Malaysia. This study aims to ascertain students’ perceptions of the employer project based on their experiences and participation. Adopting a mixed research methodology, the research employs both a questionnaire and the use of focus group discussions to probe more deeply into determining the significance of small group collaboration in the development of students’ personal and soft skills development.
