Abstract
In this paper, the results of the development of the Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) in the TNB power System in Malaysia will be presented. In a number of countries roadmaps for the development of such systems have been developed, but in some cases it is not quite clear how to design the WAMS architecture optimally. Thus, a detailed description of the WAMS in the TNB system might be a good example of how to make the next step after establishing the basic WAMS roadmap. Furthermore, it has been acknowledged that the development of novel and advanced Wide Area Control applications is currently a challenging task. In this paper a potential control application is presented and validated. The validation has been carried out through the computer simulation of the TNB power system. In a particular case, a new Adaptive Low Frequency Demand Control scheme will be presented. In the paper some new concepts for designing a more reliable approach are discussed as well.
