Abstract

Misconception is an obstacle physics teacher often deal with. It is a mismatch between one’s concept with scientific concept. This study aimed to develop three tier diagnostic test instrument which can be applied to identify misconception of students and physics teacher students on mechanics and hydrostatics materials using Research and Development (R&D) method. Validity questionnaire and test items were used as research instruments and data was analyzed in descriptive qualitative. The samples were 40 physics teacher candidate studentsof STKIP SoE. Based on experts’ validation result, 30 test items were valid whereas in media validation, 24 test items were valid with the reliability of rcount = 0.43 and 6 items were invalid and omitted. Hence, it can be concluded that 24 test items of three tier diagnostic test instrument were valid and applicable to identify misconception on both materials.
