Abstract
Modeling of traffic flow provides the fundamental relationships between the macroscopic traffic stream characteristics and plays an important role in the planning, design and operation of transportation facilities. The data required for the study was collected from National Highway section. Video-graphic technique was used for the data collection. The speed density models were developed using the data collected. Proportion of vehicles was found to be an influencing variable. The speed-flow and speed-occupancy analysis was also carried out and models were developed. Proportion of vehicles was also considered as an influencing variable and a parabolic relation was obtained between speed and flow. The speed density and speed flow relations using the PCU values provided by IRC guidelines were also studied. The heterogeneity coefficient was modeled for different ranges of flow values and the results were validated.
