Abstract

Japan Highway Public Corporation (JH) has been developing advanced road operation system. The system was named P-MAC (Protection system of Maintenance vehicle Against Collisions) that prevents maintenance vehicles working at low speed on expressways from rear-end collision. The P-MAC uses vehicle detection sensors and an on board VMS (Variable Message Sign) for warning. The pilot model have been established through some pre-studies and field experiments.
