Abstract

The diatom Chaetoceros socialis f. radians was found during the study of the phytoplankton of Amursky Bay. This is its first record for the Sea of Japan. A detailed morphological description based on light and electron microscopic observations is presented. The peculiarities of development of C. socialis f. radians in culture and morphometric changes in cells during the vegetative growth phase are examined. This species has a resting stage in its life cycle and is sensitive to reduced salinity.
