Abstract

The metal fiber filter as one of the most efficient gas cleaning medium presents potential application prospect to remove the radioactive particles and droplet from gaseous during severe accident in nuclear power plant. In this paper, the filtration performance of single layer metal fiber with different fiber diameters is studied in condition of U = 0.25 m/s, and an optimization method for multilayer filter design is developed based on single layer results. It indicates that the metal fiber filter with smaller fiber diameters presents higher filtration efficiency, especially for small size aerosols, but will also lead to a greater flow resistance. A multilayer metal fiber filter with 20-layers is finally selected by taking into consideration of efficiency, resistance and economy comprehensively. The filtration efficiency of this optimized filter under MPPS is verified 99.91%, which indicating that the optimized combination scheme meets the requirements and also the optimization method developed in this paper is reasonable and feasible.
