Abstract

This paper primarily studies the potential of using agricultural waste, specifically rice straw, as a sustainable material for sound absorption in interior spaces. The acoustic properties of rice straw were characterized and compared to traditional sound-absorbing materials. Rice straw was found to have a high sound absorption coefficient in the mid-frequency range. The material was also environmentally friendly, as it is an agricultural waste product and can be easily replenished. This study does not need to use chemicals. Thus, the recycled paper was used as the binder. The results of this study indicate that rice straw mixed with recycled paper can be a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional sound-absorbing materials.
