Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to develop design spectra as well as a risk map for the Taiwan area. Two types of site conditions are separated from the SMA‐1 network recordings: hard sites and soil sites. From a statistical point of view, the effects of different magnitudes and hypocentral distances on response spectra are studied. The final site‐dependent design spectra for hard sites and soil sites are calculated based on the data with M ≥ 6.0 and with a hypocentral distance of less than 50.0 km, including the data with peak ground acceleration greater than 0.2 g which was not included in the data base. The hazard spectrum, which represents a response spectrum whose spectral amplitudes are associated with known probability of exceedance are also studied. With this idea of uniform risk response spectra, the iso‐intensity map of spectral amplitude are developed.
