Abstract

The present study deals with the fiber preform preparation route for the fabrication of high performance MI-SiC f /SiC composites. Especially, the efficiency of matrix slurry infiltration process, in which the infiltration pressure and the cold pressing are combined for the preparation of fiber preform, is examined. The compatibility among SiC fibers, interfacial protection layer and molten silicon is also examined. The microstructures and the mechanical properties of MI-SiC f /SiC composites are examined through means of SEM, TEM, EDS and three point bending test. Based on mechanical property-microstructure correlation, the process optimization is also discussed.
