Abstract

Abstract SCADA is the acronym of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition which means the communication scheme for telemetry measurement and control of the automated control system. SCADA system was introduced for the monitor and control of manufacturing process on local basis in the beginning. As the information technology has been advanced SCADA system has also evolved into larger and more automated system covering wide area. Today SCADA system has been introduced into the critical infrastructures as well as modern industrial facilities. Electric Power system is a representative system using SCADA network. Electricity is not able to be stored in large quantity especially considering economic efficiency therefore it is critical to be balanced between supply and demand, which is the main function of SCADA system. This paper introduces the structure and characteristics of SCADA system and communication, and the security devices which it has been studied for securing SCADA communication.
