Abstract

A new solid polymer electrolyte based on polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) complexes with an ionic dopant p–amino benzoic acid (PABA) along with a composite made with poly p-amino benzoic acid (PPA) had been prepared by solution casting technique using the water and dimethyl formamide (DMF) as solvents. PPA was prepared from the monomer by ammonium persulphate in the acidic medium. IR spectral analysis confirms the formation of PPA through the absence of NH stretching bands and the new peaks of carboxylate ion. The prepared thin films have been structurally characterized by UV and FTIR spectroscopy which proves the complex formation with PABA and composite formation with PPA. Electro chemical characterization was carried out by AC impedance analysis and from these studies, it was observed that the composites of PVP with PPA possess highest conductivity and acted as good polymer composite electrolyte compared to PABA. The relaxation time and dielectric property of the electrolyte also proves the same. 90 mol% PVP with 10 mol% PPA in water system possesses highest conductivity 9.29 X10−06 S/cm and also low relaxation time.
