Abstract

The author looks at the background of project management in a historical context. The origins of some of the more common project management techniques, such as CPM and PERT, are traced. The development of project management from the 1960s onwards is then considered against the various economic climates of recent decades. The formation of the various project management bodies is described, and training and development of project managers is discussed, before attention is turned to project management in Brazil.
