Abstract

In the electric power industry, there are many research projects to stabilise the power and increase the efficiency using ubiquitous technology. Many power utilities control and supervise the transmission line of energy to avoid power failures. In this research, the authors designed and implemented a service framework for the electric facility management to collect real-time information of electric facility using RFID/USN. The service framework was developed by expanding the EPC network architecture to provide the effective integration interface of the distributed data of each branch office. The authors developed two kinds of pilot services. Active RFID technology senses the temperature data of overhead transmission wire to monitor the transmission line whether it has overheated or not. Underground tunnel monitoring system monitors the ambient temperature, gas and surface temperature of a power cable in underground tunnels. The authors performed field test and analysed some measurement results. The result demonstrates that pilot services provide effective real-time monitoring of electric facilities with low cost.
