Abstract

AbstractThe Sheffield Laboratories of the British Steel Corporation have developed a process for the production of stainless steel strip from powder. Conventional and higher alloy grades of stainless strip have been made on a pilot plant at the laboratories and used for successful product evaluation trials. Following on from the success of the laboratory work, BSC Stainless Works took over the development and have installed and successfully commissioned a production scale plant capable of producing stainless strip up to 1·55 m. This paper summarizes the development work undertaken by Sheffield Laboratories on the pilot plant and describes the general features of the strip production line and its associated powder plant at BSC Stainless Works.
