Abstract

The paper represents the implementation of a closed loop control system having a PID control. The parameter has been tuned accordingly to implement the control which has been achieved via PLC incorporating the auto-tuning feature. SCADA ensures the supervision of the feedback or closed loop control system. The proportional-integral-derivative or PID controller used has self or Auto tuning feature. A ladder logic solver acts as a temperature control unit having special Input -Output which performs PID control with 2 degrees of freedom resulting output through the open collector. Temperature control is quite challenging by the use of conventional control techniques, hence the purpose of the paper is to implement PID control based on programmable logic controller (PLC) ladder logic solver (LLS) to control the time to heat up any particular plant system ranging from storage tanks in industries to incubator or food and other medical use or even in the field of reliability engineering to a desired temperature with a precise efficiency. The PLC under operation is OMRON CJIM-CPU22 as the temperature control unit along with Citect SCADA for supervision of the plant forms the crucial parts in this research. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) is a collaborated software and hardware system element that finds its applications prevent in numerous industrial processes among which medical applications, food industry, power distribution, and mining sectors are the most popular ones. The use of SCADA systems here is for data acquisition and regulation of the temperature of control components. This paper aims to validate a small scale application of the developed PLC and SCADA based integrated thermal control system using Citect SCADA. Hence, monitoring and regulating the temperature of thermal process hardware has been implemented in this work. The outcome clearly manifests the SCADA control system is successfully developed by using the Citect SCADA software by Schneider Electric v 7.3.
