Abstract

A gaseous detector “Micro Pixel Chamber (μ-PIC)” based on double-sided Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology has been developed for X-ray, gamma-ray, and charged particle imagings. Imaging properties for X-ray and charged particles were tested. As a X-ray detector, achieved position resolution was 160 μm (RMS), and the image uniformity within 24% was obtained. Furthermore, three-dimensional resolution of 260 μm were obtained as a charged particle detector. However, the gas gain is not enough to detect the tracks of minimum ionizing particles. In order to improve the gas gain, we proposed a new electrode structure using a new manufacture technology. According to a simulation, the expected collection efficiency is three times higher than the current μ-PICs.
