Abstract

This paper presents novel passive RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag designs mountable of metallic objects which can be used in different RFID applications such as supply chain management. The challenges when identifying metallic objects using RFID technology are also considered. The biggest challenge is developing lowprofile tag antennas that can be attached to metallic surfaces. In this paper the effects of the vicinity of metal on antenna performance are discussed. Also the performance of antenna types that can exploit metallic surface in their function is presented and analysed.
