Abstract

For improving ride quality and running performance of railway tilting cars in curves, the authors have developed the new bearing-guide-type tilt system and the new slide-type pantograph support system. The bearing-guide tilt system makes possible to reduce guide resistance so as to tilt a carbody smoothly and improve riding comfort. The slide-type pantograph support system maintains a pantograph on the track center line without occupying a passenger cabin. Various tests proved that the performance of these systems was good. These systems have been put to practical use on Japan Railways new tilting railcars.
