Abstract

Hypertensive diabetic animal models have been developed by injecting streptozotocin (STZ) in neonatal stroke-resistant spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRSR) and stroke-prone SHR (SHRSP) at the age of 2 days. They showed mild insulin deficiency and mild hyperglycemia at the age of 3 to 4 months, but strain difference in the susceptibility was noted; the incidences of diabetes were higher in SHRSR and SHRSP than in Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY).
