Abstract

Neuro-developmental abnormalities often occur in the human newborn. Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a technique to investigate the brain disease occurring together with these neuro-abnormalities, NIRS is based on the specific absorption properties of haemoglobin and oxyhaemoglobin in the near infrared region. Local variations in cerebral blood volume (CBV) and blood oxygenation is important for a better understanding of these abnormalities.
