Abstract

Fish block liners are widely used for frozen fish packaging. They are designed to prevent freezer burn and dehydration of fish during frozen packaging. There are needs to develop domestic fish block liners to replace the imported liners that take most of Korean market. In this study, we analyzed the coating layers and the physical properties of fish block liners and coated liner boards, which are used for the common corrugated boards, to develop methods for manufacturing domestic fish block liners. The block liners had relatively higher Cobb size degrees and lower Gurley air permeability than the domestic prototype block liners and coated liner boards. The pores in the coating layer of the block liners endowed them with a certain level of water resistance and high air permeability. Therefore, we concluded that the existence of pores in the coating layer was the key factor, and a new treatment should be developed to make pores in the paraffin wax coating layer for the production of domestic block liners.
