Abstract

This manuscript reviews the role of management information systems in human service agencies. It addresses managerial applications, client descriptive analyses, diagnosis, treatment planning, documentation or program implementation and effectiveness, research operations, specific clinical procedures, and educational functions. The manuscript provides guidelines for establishing requisites for the development and selection of an adequate information system, dissemination of information, and application of relevant knowledge. Finally, the implications of management information systems for the field of social work are reviewed.
