Abstract

Steatite bodies were developed using Jaipur talc and small amounts of barium and magnesium carbonate as bonding agents. The bodies were tested for shrinkage, absorption, density, thermal expansion, thermal endurance and electrical properties including dielectric strength, DC resistivity, power factor and loss factor. Effect of replacing barium carbonate by magnesium carbonate and lead silicate was also studied. Some of the compositions conform to the A.S.A. specifications for the highest grade of low-loss insulators.
