Abstract
TreadStone has developed a proprietary design and processing technologies that have been applied on the commercially available 304SS and 316SS stainless steel foils. The treated SS foil has been used as the bipolar separate plate material to replace graphite in PEMFC, which will lead to 40~50% stack weight and volume reduction. We have demonstrated over 8500 hours stable operation of a small single cell using the SS bipolar plates. The cost analysis indicates that TreadStone's technology could reduce the cost to $3.53/kW for automobile applications.
