Abstract

In this study, we have developed a low basicity PACl coagulants containing iron by changing the basicity of the existing PACl and using iron salt coagulant as an additive for effective coagulation. The analysis of Al(â ¢) hydrolysis species with low basicity PAIC showed that monomeric Al species were increased while polymeric Al species were decreased for the low basicity PAIC. Also, PAIC (polyaluminumiron chloride) coagulant showed high coagulation efficiency for turbidity and organic matters (UV254) in coagulation experiments. Therefore, it was concluded that the addition of monomeric PAIC increases the removal efficiency of organic matters (UV254) by keeping the coagulation pH at the optimum level. Key words: PACl, PAIC, Coagulation, Basicity, Al species
