Abstract

Background & Objectives: In this study, we aimed to develop multimedia teaching materials that utilize picture symbols and speech generation features of AAC, for students with disabilities to be able to participate in the class of general elementary school. Method: Instructional materials using AAC were developed based on the following steps: 1) selection of target subject area and chapters, 2) PPT development using textbook contents, 3) modification of lesson plans, 4) preparation of AAC application according to the adapted lesson plan, 5) creation of literacy materials of selected core vocabularies from the chapter, and 6) making worksheets. Results: Various PPT materials and AAC boards for class participation and vocabulary learning were developed. The process and results of this study showed ways to use AAC for academic participation in inclusive education settings. Conclusion: Further research is necessary to study the effect of actual application of these instructional materials.
