Abstract
An industrial X-ray computed tomography was developed under the influence of the rapid spread of the X-ray CT scanner in the medical field.In this development, many improvements have been made in industrial CT scanners in order to obtain a higher quality image as follows:(1) Improvements of image quality were accomplished by increasing the space resolving power and software.(2) Development of an X-ray inspection room section and mechanical control section for industrial use.(3) Protection of environment, by providing X-ray shield, and dust and vibration-proof measures.By using the industrial CT scanner, submerged nozzles for continuous casting of steel were analyzed. It made possible not only detection of hidden defects but also clear observation of the internal condition of refractories, such as sectional dimensions and density. It is expected to achieve wide use for refractories research and development, and for quality control work.
