Abstract
Report of a case of immune haemolytic anaemia and thrombocytopenia antedated by 19 years with biologic false positive serological reactions for syphilis and initially associated with an aplastic crisis. The erythrocytes were heavily sensitized with complement and weakly with γG globulin. In spite of elevated cold agglutinins, the patient had not experienced Raynaud's phenomenon and there was no abnormal cold haemolysis. Ultracentrifugation studies revealed a quality change in the Wassermann antibodies that roughly parallelled the development of the haemolytic disease.
