Abstract

The profession of horticultural therapy (HT) began in Hong Kong in 2005 with the establishment of the Hong Kong Horticultural Therapy Centre (HKHTC) as the vehicle to run therapeutic horticulture programs and provide quality professional HT trainings. This paved the road to the birth of the Hong Kong Association of Therapeutic Horticulture (HKATH) in 2008 with the goal to promote horticultural therapy in Hong Kong and China. The past six years have witnessed the steady growth of horticulture therapy taking root in the local setting and it is reaching out to other parts of China. It is the aim of the HKATH to build a solid foundation in Hong Kong to develop the HT profession, to conduct evidence-based research, and to foster the exchange of expertise with other local and overseas HT professionals.
