Abstract

Cellulose and Polymer-based substrates are promising for SERS detection because they can be produced on demand in different sizes and formats and allow detection on the surface of samples owing to their flexibility. The present study selected a substrate with high SERS performance by selecting the following experimental variables: Ag nanoparticles (AgNP) protecting layer, flexible support pretreatment, and support nature (cellulosic paper – hydrophilic or PTFE and PDMS–hydrophobic). It was observed that the citrate layer, as a protector for AgNP, showed significant interference from citrate ions in analyte detection. The cellulosic support-based substrate presented the best SERS performance when pretreated with KCl before the cationic dye. Finally, because of the larger concentration of nanoparticles on the surface, the polymeric supports performed better than the cellulosic ones, with RSD values of approximately 5 % for the cationic dye; for the anionic dye, the RSD value obtained was 26 %.
