Abstract

Compact 145 kV, 40 kA gas insulated switchgear (GIS) has been developed. The authors show the steps to develop new GIS and its components by using various techniques. At first a study for new interrupting chamber with low operating energy has been conducted. In parallel to this, compact GIS layout has been studied. For the interrupting chamber a modified hybrid puffer chamber with integrated hydraulic operating mechanism has been used. On GIS layout, the positions of current transformers (CTs) are discussed, the bus side CT is mounted above the GCB, and the line side CT is in line side components. All the components of GIS has been manufactured and tested at the neutral testing station and results are quite successful.
