Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop genetics education program based on Morgan's drosophila experiment, and to examine educational potential of it. The genetics education program was based on the chromosomal theory of heredity using Morgan's mutant Drosophila and analysing Morgan's drosophila research process containing drosophila's eye color character. The genetics education program using Morgan's experiment could be applied to the students' learning, help them realize the nature of biological science, understand the genetic concepts and stimulate the curiosity of biological sciences. After the program was applied to pre-service biology teachers, educational significances were checked through interviewing them. The genetics education program based on Morgan's drosophila experiment can be helpful to improve students' cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills, and to understand genetic concepts, the standpoint of scientists and the process of scientific thinking.
