Abstract

All types of metallic and non-metallic inclusions, impurities and other unwanted particles are common problems in both ferrous and non-ferrous foundry practices. Special foam ceramics for the filtering of molten metals and alloys have been recently employed in the casting of aluminium and its alloys. Alumina base porous ceramic filters can effectively reduce the inclusion content in the final microstructure of metals. Processing of porous alumina filters is outlined in this study and microstructural features are described.
